The Ocean Package's
ESG Targets and Commitments
Innovation with Purpose – It is important to us that we ensure our company grows both responsibly and sustainably. A key objective of this is to enhance and develop our holistic approach to Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) activities. We are showing our clients, colleagues and suppliers the commitments we are making, relevant not only to our own operations but to the whole of our supply chain. We have previously adopted the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) as a blueprint for positively influencing global challenges. In 2022 we joined the Ellen McArthur Foundation Community and the European Circular Economy Stakeholder Platform, (A joint initiative by the European Commission and the European Economic and Social Committee) to drive a clearly defined path for expanding our international sustainable development partner network.
The commitments aligned to our supporting prioritized goals:
Decent work and economic growth (promote sustained, inclusive and sustainable economic growth)
We are committed to ensuring that THE OCEAN PACKAGE is a great place to work, and that our suppliers provide decent working conditions for their employees with a fair wage and strong employee rights.
Reduced inequalities (reduce inequality within and among countries by 2030)
We are committed to being a diverse and inclusive business that reflects the communities in which we operate and that the rights and opportunities of every person should be respected, regardless of their gender, ethnicity, religious beliefs, sexual orientation, or socio-economic background.
Make cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable
The Ocean Package is committed to addressing and improving the environmental impact of cities’ use of single-use products in online shipping. We commit to a 100% recycling rate of our packaging to save up to 95% of waste from shipping packaging.
Responsible consumption and production (ensure sustainable consumption and production patterns)
We will ensure our products are sourced and produced responsibly, while also helping our clients to look at more sustainable forms of production and consumption.
Climate action (take urgent action to combat climate change and its impacts)
We will help keep global warming below 1.5 °C by reducing our carbon footprint and moving to net zero emissions.
Life below water (conserve and sustainably use the oceans, seas and marine resources for sustainable development)
We are committed to fight against the global ocean plastic pollution. We use the technical highest possible percentage of ocean bound plastics in our products. Our research and design will continue to develop new materials and innovative processes towards circular packaging solutions based on recycled ocean plastic.
Protect, restore and promote sustainable use of terrestrial ecosystems, sustainably manage forests, combat desertification, and halt and reverse land degradation and halt biodiversity loss
In addition to the use of ocean-bound plastic recyclate, we are also committed to a complete raw material cycle for our materials. We are currently adding the highest possible proportion of recycled materials to our packaging and are working flat out on new processes to further increase the recycled content.
Partnership (strengthen the means of implementation and revitalize the global partnership for sustainable development)
In 2022, we joined the Ellen McArthur Foundation Community to drive a clearly defined path for expanding our international sustainable development partner network.
In addition to continuing to embrace diversity and inclusion at all levels of our business, these additional targets place greater focus on ensuring decent working conditions and economic growth for our supply chain. Our commitment to these ambitious targets is hugely significant and amplifies the importance of businesses keeping sustainability at the forefront of their growth.
