Andreas Noe – The man behind The Trash Traveler
From molecular biologist to environmental activist
Andreas Noe, known as The Trash Traveler, began his journey as an environmental activist after a formative experience in Portugal. Originally a molecular biologist, he decided to give up his career after seeing the massive pollution of beaches caused by plastic waste and cigarette butts. His mission is clear: to educate the public about the serious consequences of marine pollution and encourage them to take action.
Waste collection campaigns and art made from marine litter
Since 2019, The Trash Traveler has been organising waste collection campaigns along the Portuguese coast. However, these campaigns go far beyond simple beach clean-ups. The collected marine litter is used to create artworks that make a strong visual statement against plastic pollution and raise awareness of the problem.
The Ocean Hike – A journey for the protection of the oceans
Collecting waste and sharing knowledge
Andreas Noe is currently on a month-long ‘Ocean Hike’ around Madeira. This hike is more than just a hike; it is a comprehensive campaign for the protection of the oceans. During the hike, he collects rubbish, meets with scientists, NGOs and schools to expand and pass on his knowledge about the effects of microplastics and other pollutants in the oceans.
The global threat of microplastics
Up to 12.7 million tonnes of plastic enter the oceans every year, and microplastics are one of the biggest threats to the marine environment. If this pollution increases unchecked, the amount of microplastics could increase 50-fold by the next century. There is therefore an urgent need to promote sustainable alternatives to single-use plastic and raise public awareness of this global problem.
Our goals with The Trash Traveler
Ocean Package aims to further raise awareness of ocean pollutionand promote the use of environmentally friendly productsthrough its collaboration with The Trash Traveler. This partnership aims to support the sustainable use of resourcesand raise awareness of the responsible use of plastic. We not only want to reduce waste on the beaches, but also promote the introduction of deposit systems for waste avoidanceand political measures.
Together against marine pollution: Ocean Package and The Trash Traveler are committed to sustainable solutions
Only through awareness and collective action can we achieve the much-needed change in the fight against marine pollution. Together with The Trash Traveler, Ocean Package will continue to work to tackle the problem of plastic pollution and promote sustainable solutions.
