SDGs in business are more than just a trend – they are crucial to driving sustainable change. At The Ocean Package, the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are not just discussed, but actively integrated into the company’s strategy. In this article, we show how our company is bringing the SDGs to life, how our new intern Becci is accompanying us on this journey, and what opportunities other companies can gain from it.

Our new intern Becci

We welcome our new intern Becci, who will be supporting The Ocean Package from August 2025 to January 2026. She is currently studying Social Innovation Management and is highly motivated to contribute to building a more sustainable future. With her studies and passion for sustainability, she wants to learn how business and responsibility can be combined in practice and how SDGs can be implemented in companies.

She would like to introduce herself to you:

The Social Europe Days 2025: Responsibility and Perspectives

Young people and teachers in dialogue

The Social Europe Days 2025 brought together young people and teachers from across Europe to discuss a key question: what does it mean to shape the future responsibly? Under the motto ‘Us and the SDGs’, the event focused entirely on sustainable development. The aim was not only to reflect on the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), but also to actively engage with them as future entrepreneurs, changemakers and citizens.

Diversity of perspectives

One of the most inspiring aspects of the Social Europe Days was the diversity of perspectives we were able to learn about through the lectures and excursions. These moments gave depth to the SDGs and connected theory with real life – not only through facts, but also through people, stories and honest questions.

Impulse from Jaennet: Focus on responsibility

One of the talks, given by Jaennet, was an impressive starting point. She encouraged us to think not only about what career we want to pursue, but also what impact we want to have on the world. She challenged us to think beyond success in the traditional sense, beyond titles and salaries, and to focus on responsibility, contribution and inner alignment.

SDGs in companies at The Ocean Package

Responsibility as the basis of our work

At The Ocean Package, this sense of responsibility is not just a cliché, but the foundation of their work. What impresses me most as an intern is their commitment to honesty and transparency.

Sustainability is not a marketing strategy

At a time when many companies adorn themselves with sustainability labels without really doing anything, The Ocean Package insists on being different. For the founders, sustainability is not a marketing tool. It is a promise to society and the environment, and one that is lived out every day.

SDGs as concrete guidelines

The company is committed to several United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), ranging from responsible consumption and production to climate action and life below water. At The Ocean Package, these SDGs are not treated as abstract principles, but as concrete guidelines that shape daily decisions and long-term strategies.

Changemakers in action: living responsibility

Practice rather than theory

What makes this truly inspiring is that The Ocean Package is not about theory, but about practice. It’s about changemakers in action: people who take responsibility and translate it into something visible and measurable.

Part of a larger story

We are all part of a bigger story. In her essay ‘It’s Not Climate Change, It’s Everything Change,’ Margaret Atwood (2015) reminds us that ‘we are all part of the story, whether we like it or not.’ The way we live, act, consume and connect with each other helps shape the future – regardless of whether we choose to take responsibility or not.

Summary

Courage to take responsibility

That is precisely what inspires me about The Ocean Package: the courage to take this responsibility seriously and show that a different way of doing business is possible. It reminds us that SDGs in business are not about perfection, but about the commitment to make decisions every day that bring us closer to the future we want.
