Ocean Move – Rent Sustainable Moving Boxes Instead of Buying Cardboard
Moving is one of the largest drivers of single-use packaging in everyday life. Every year, millions of cardboard moving boxes are used in German cities alone — often just once.
With Ocean Move, we at The Ocean Package have developed a solution that tackles exactly this issue: reusable moving boxes designed for 20–30 cycles.
How Ocean Move Was Created
In autumn 2025, we were increasingly asked whether our reusable boxes could also be suitable for moving.
What initially seemed like an obvious idea quickly evolved into a standalone project with clear requirements: durability, ease of handling, return logistics, and a user-friendly rental process.
Together with our intern Fabian, Philip developed the first prototypes, which we tested during real-life moves with friends at the end of last year.
The result was clear:
Our boxes perform better in everyday moving scenarios than traditional cardboard boxes.
From Idea to Market Launch – Ocean Move Goes Live
Based on this feedback, we decided to move into series production before the end of the year. At the same time, our IT team developed a dedicated software solution for Ocean Move, optimizing booking, delivery, and return processes for a B2C model.

Since early February, the first 300 sustainable moving boxes have been in circulation — and the first successful returns have already been completed this week.

Our Goal – Sustainable Moving in Munich and Beyond
Around 90,000 moves take place every year in the greater Munich area alone.
Our goal is to make a significant share of them more sustainable in the coming months.
Due to high demand, we have already placed the next production order for our Munich warehouse. The next step is to expand Ocean Move from major cities across Germany.
